Come Over To My House - BOM 2009 Block 4 - Jarene's Country Home
Share a Photo of your Block | View Block 4 PhotosBlock 4 is a called "Jarene's Country Home". I've added something new this month. Because several folks commented that they were finding the triangles and roofs to be tricky, I've introduced a different way to cut the triangles this month, instead of templates. And, I'm really excited about this part ... I've made a few short videos with tips for piecing the roofs more accurately. I hope that you find them helpful. Here is Alecia's block - I love the fabric she used for the house!

To match Alecia's color scheme for block 4, you'll need beige or sky blue scraps for the sky background, burgundy for the house, black for the roof and shutters, a bit of gold for the door and white or cream scraps for the windows. Note 1: You may want to save some of the sky fabric you use because later we'll be making a little shrub that goes next to this house and you may want to use the same sky fabric for the shrub block. Note 2: The shutters on this house are very little pieces. I find that very careful cutting and very careful sewing with precise seam allowances improves my accuracy when working with tiny pieces.
The pattern for Block 4 is not longer available for free downloading, but you can purchase it for only $1 on
my patterns page (just scroll down and you'll see it).

Please do not photocopy or email the PDF files to a friend. I want to you share my BOM pattern with any one who wants it, but please direct them to this web page and they can join right in. Block 4 will be available for free for 2 months. The first and second blocks are no longer available for free, but if you missed out on it, you can purchase it for a small fee on my pattern page (scroll down). Block 3, Jimmy's Place, will be available until May15th. When you've finished your 4th block, please share a photo of your block so we can all see each other's work. I love the community we've built while working on this quilt together! Here is the form to submit your photos for your fourth block. It is easy to use! Check the bottom of this page to see other quilters' block 4 photos. Below is my block. You might notice that it is slightly different from Alecia's and from the pattern. That is because I sewed the left column of the house together "incorrectly". I switched piece J and H. I decided to not get out my seam ripper because I think it looks just fine the way it is and it was an opportunity to let go of perfectionism. Quilting doesn't have to be perfect to look good, right? But I wanted to point this out, so that it doesn't cause confusion.
