A Quilt Custom-Made for You

I design and create for my clients custom tallit, memory quilts, baby blankets, and other quilted Judaica using sustainably or organically grown and recycled fabrics.

This is a memory pillow that I created for a client whose nephew passed away. In the center is a photo of all the cousins. The photo is surrounded by paper pieced animal blocks (see the link below for the pattern book I used - this is a wonderful book!). Hopefully, this darling pillow will bring some comfort to the child's family. "Green" aspects of this work include the batik fabric scraps used in the animal blocks and a organic cotton and bamboo batting.

These delightful animal blocks were made using the patterns in "A Quilter's Ark":

The quilt I make for you will become a tangible memory of an important life event or loved one. It will also represent your contribution to tikkun olam—a little piece you do to heal the world.

I practice the traditional art of quilting using sustainable, ecologically-friendly techniques, including:

  • Using fabrics and battings (a quilt’s soft filling) made of organically grown cotton and renewable bamboo.
  • Ensuring that all new fabric I use is colored with natural, environmentally safe, non-petroleum-based dyes.
  • Finding one-of-a-kind colors and patterns in recycled and second-hand fabrics.

My choice to quilt “greener” is my personal mitzvah, reflecting a deep commitment to healing and preserving the environment.

If you have an idea for a project, contact me and we'll discuss your project. I also have some items that are already made available for sale at my Etsy Store - http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6268144.

I look forward to working with you.

Joanna
